Canadian pianist David Lécuyer is a prizewinner of the Canadian Music Competition, the Festival-Concours of Sherbrooke, the Sherbrooke University Concerto Competition, and the Mary Graham Lasley Competition. He has performed as a soloist with the Sherbrooke Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Sherbrooke University Symphony Orchestra. Recent appearances include venues around Virginia, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. as a collaborative pianist and soloist.

Sought after as a collaborative pianist, David has held the position of opera repetiteur as well as collaborative pianist at Shenandoah University. Recent collaborations include a recital series with tenor Drew Young and mezzo-soprano Dina Spyropoulous. David is a recipient of several scholarships and currently holds a graduate assistantship position at the Peabody Institute where he teaches music theory. His active work with living composers has led him to record the premieres of works by Canadian composer Benoit Groulx.

Born in Montreal, David holds a bachelor’s degree from Sherbrooke University and a master’s degree from Shenandoah University, where he studied under famed Beethoven specialist John O’Conor. He currently pursues a Graduate Performance Diploma at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University under Alexander Shtarkman. He has performed in masterclasses with world renowned artists including Richard Goode, André Laplante, Nicholas Tzavaras, and Daniel Shapiro.

A very keen interest in German music is reflected in his playing and choice of repertoire. Acclaimed for his artistic sensibility and expressivity, he is profoundly inspired by older generations of pianists and seeks to revive a lost tradition of piano playing. His love of nature, philosophy, and literature strongly influence his interpretation of music.
